Report: US begins exporting petroleum products for first time in nearly 20 years For the first time in nearly 20 years, the United States has become a net exporter of petroleum products, according to a report by the Huffington Post. The US Energy Department data shows that the US exported 54000 more barrels of petroleum products each day than it purchased abroad, beginning November 2010. The increase in fuel exports was attributed to unrest in the Middle East leading to higher oil prices; a weak US dollar; and increased spending power abroad, particularly in Latin America.
