How a sperm whale becomes green energy

Knokke - Ostende | The sperm whale that was washed onto the beach of Knokke (Belgium) on the 7th of February 2012, will be given a new destination as biomass product after it has been processed at Rendac rendering company. The whale offal is regarded as CAT 1 fat that may not be processed in the food chain for humans or animals. Electrawinds has developed a process that makes green energy from such fatsThe 12.5 tonnes of the sperm whale can render up to 50000 kWh of green energy. This corresponds to the annual consumption of 14 families (assuming an annual average consumption of 3500 kWh). Electrawinds naturally regrets that the beautiful sea animal was washed ashore and died. However, innovative renewable energy techniques enable us to process the by-product in an environmentally responsible manner, while simultaneously producing green electricity.
