This video describes the equipment used to demonstrate the concept that makes a wind powered aircraft possible. Two moderately large kites are attached to a common tether. One kite is flown to about 3000 feet and the other kite is flown to about 500 feet. The wind differential between these altitudes is about 10 miles per hour. That wind differential causes lift on the two kites that is sufficient to sustain the system in extended flight without the use of fuel. The system is not gliding. It does not descend. It does not exchange the potential energy of altitude for kinetic energy to move the system forward the way a glider operates. This new method of producing lift and propulsion offers benefits over other modes of transportation that consume fuel and produce green house gases. No fuel is required, consequently not green house gases are produced. A wind powered aircraft may be the mode of transportation with the lowest carbon footprint. Voyages around the world without stopping and without fuel may be possible. Developing regions of the world that currently do not have the benefit of air transport or road transport infrastructure could greatly benefit from this ultra low-cost method of moving people and goods. Wind powered aircraft will have very low landing and take-off speeds that will further enhance their application in areas of the world where airports and runways do not exist. Potentially, freight could be moved virtually from point to point without any trans ... | From:hcdebey Views: 0 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 0 ratings | |
