Kohlberg Kravis Expands Green Portfolio; Native Energy Installs Wind Turbine- Energy Min 10/31/12

Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Company's Green Portfolio now accounts for a financial impact of $365 million from cost savings through cutting energy and water consumption and reducing waste across the 13 companies in the program. Through the GPP, KKR estimates that it has avoided 2.2 million tons of waste and 810000 of greenhouse gas emissions, and has reduced water usage by 300 million liters. KKR was the first US based private equity firm to sign on to the UN's Principles for Responsible Investment, and works with the Environmental Defense Fund in its GPP to enhance shareholder value by using sustainability as a key driver. Native Energy, Northwestern School Corporation and Performance Services have completed the installation of a 900 kilowatt wind turbine on the Northwestern High School's campus. The turbine will power school buildings and cut greenhouse gas pollution. Clif Bar, Ben & Jerry's, Aveda, and Reverb have helped the combined Indiana School Wind Project by purchasing Native Energy's "Help Build" carbon offsets.
